Owner/operator and former Pro goaltender Roydon Gunn, has built a program over the past 25 years in Saskatoon second to none. Chances are if you are getting any goaltending in the province right now, it has been heavily influenced be Goal Tec. The program has always been on the “cutting edge of goaltending development”. The proof is in the pudding with goaltending Superstars Darcy Kuemper, Dustin Tokarski, and Connor Ingram all NHL signed goalies, all trained at Goal Tec.
Roydon himself played among the worlds best in the NHL, and has a pedigree like few others. His highlights include playing 4 years of Professional hockey, mostly with the New York Islanders and their minor league system. He also played for the Memorial Cup Champion Prince Albert Raiders in 1985. Roydon played briefly for the Canadian OLYMPIC team in 1990. He was voted CIS Canada West MVP with the U of S Huskies in 1992. His Memphis Riverkings .45 Gunn jersey was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993. After playing six years of Senior hockey in the Wild Goose League in Kindersley, Kerrobert, Unity and Battleford before his illustrious career was complete.
It was now time to devote his time to the next generation, and build from the ground up an “On Ice” year round goaltender training and retail centre in Saskatoon. The program has flourished in part to Roydon’s passion for the position, and not only training the goalies himself, but training the trainers to get the goalies to believe in themselves. To try new things. To think outside the box. Roydon has taken his level of wanting to be the best, always thinking you could have done something better, and giving these insights to the youth of today. Whether it be the changing styles of goaltending regarding post play and snow angels, facial tracking or active rebound control Goal Tec has it covered.
